About

My name is Joshua Dodson. I am the sole owner and designer at Dodson Design, though I do get a bit of help from my wife Michelle. We live in Cumberland Gap, Tennessee with our beautiful baby boy, Ethan. We try to get out and hike around the mountains, though it is not as often as we would like.

I have built Web sites for around 10 years. I code by hand most of the time with my Apple computers, so the job is guaranteed to get done as it should. I am a strong believer in semantic, standards-compliant Web sites that make full use of innovative techniques while maintaining an elegant simplicity. For this reason my medium of choice is the WordPress platform. I code a bit of PHP to run on WordPress, and use XHTML and CSS to style the appearance of the site. I dabble with JavaScript, but only when necessary for a certain effect. I try to keep the code as clean and lightweight as possible.

Ultimately my main goal when creating a site for a client is to make it is easy to use and update for the client, and easy to navigate for the end-user. I take care to ensure at least the minimal amount of search engine optimization for every site I design, so that the sites can quickly be found via a major search engine. I try to keep the Web sites I create easy to use for all users, including those needing a screen reader.

My other interests include writing, music, libraries, and alternative medicine. I was a licensed massage therapist in the state of Tennessee for several years, working in a spa in Knoxville. I currently work at Lincoln Memorial University’s Carnegie-Vincent Library in addition to freelancing. I am in the process of designing their new web sites. I also attempt to introduce innovative open source software into the learning environment.

I am currently available for projects. If you would like me to design a Web site for you, please send me a message. I am also available for complete packages, including Web sites, brochures, flyers, book/ebook designs, etc. Please see my portfolio and free WordPress themes to see some examples of my work.
